This internet dating thing has been quite interesting. So far it's been hit or miss. Hit for me and miss for him or miss for me and hit for him. I'm looking for the double hit, so I guess I'll have to be patient and keep my eyes open.
Anyway, today I pretty much laid low and relaxed the day away. I went to see Sex and the City at the theater and really enjoyed the movie. There was even a "crossword puzzle" part of the movie that got me laughing my head off.
Tom gave me a call tonight and asked me to go to the Chiefs game with him this coming Friday. It will be a Derrek Lee bobblehead giveaway night. That will be a great evening... I'll just have to figure out which Cubs' shirt to wear.
Tomorrow I have dinner and play with Grandpa in the evening. Don't know where dinner will be, but know I'll be seeing Singing in the Rain at Cornstalk Theater.
And... Hopefully... I'll actually get to play softball on Monday at 7:00

Beautiful Weather
I hope this gorgeous weather holds up! This plant in my backyard really loves it. So do I! I think I'm going to take a walk now. Thought this flower might brighten someone's day.

Finally.
I finally got the photo off my camera for the solution to the rain while unpacking the POD on Friday. Not quite sure why the above is in blue and underlined, oh well. I had a very busy, productive and enjoyable weekend. Today was all me! I went to see Indiana Jones, watched the Cubs game, and now I'm zipping around online. My softball game got canceled for tonight, so I took the opportunity to mow my lawn, since I should be busy moving more boxes the next two nights. That's the scoop from here. I hope everyone enjoyed their extended weekends!

My Day Off
I helped Laura unpack the POD today. I have a great photo of how we jury rigged a tarp to reach from the garage to the POD, but it's still on my phone (which is charging right now). We both made it through the day okay, just achy and tired. I'm hoping the bruise from getting hit with a brick will be colorful tomorrow, if so, I'll post that on my blog with the story behind it. Time to go chill with the kitties.

Up close and personal
A few people have seen the rock pile up close in person. For those who haven't, here it is in all of its glory. I sloped the dirt away from the house, put the plastic down and have been piling all the rock from the flowerbeds on top. I think it's safe to say that I'll have plenty of rock to finish covering the plastic. I'm surprised I haven't started dreaming about digging in the dirt, picking out rocks, saving worms, and wrestling with pesky evergreen bush roots. So far I have been winning, but there's still a way to go.
How do the front flower beds look? I'm glad you asked. Tom and Laura stopped by yesterday to help finish off the right side of the house. Behind the Cubs sign the end to my rake handle. Tom was working with a bit too much gusto yesterday. I can't wait to edge this out with the brick sitting in my garage.
Next step is to finish pulling the rock out of the left flowerbed. I should have a few nights this week to continue on that one. Thanks to Laura and Tom for helping me get a jump start on that side. Mom came over today to help me put the chicken wire up in the backyard. I am good to go there, just need to remember to keep my veggies and flowers watered.
Are you wondering if I've found and buried treasure in my yard with all of this digging through rock and dirt? Well, Laura gets the prize for coolest find. I made it unscathed through the backyard, but the front was a bit different. Laura found these bones buried in the ground on either side of the front stoop! I wish I could remember which bones she said they were. Anyway, they are most likely some lucky dog's treats from awhile back.

Previous Homeowner
Apparently the previous owner to my house was a rock collector. This photo is technically not from my front yard, but if you removed all the whirly-gigs from the flowerbeds-to-be, then it would look like that. I have soooo much work ahead of me!

Too Little, Too Late
If we had a fan section rooting for our softball team, then I'm guessing the would look a bit like this guy. 5 games this season and we've gone 3 extra inning games, and have lost by a total of 5 runs. Maybe if our cheering section overpowers the other team, it will help intimidate them.
Next week's game is 6:00pm at Peoria Stadium on War Memorial... closest diamond to the road. If you're in Central Illinois and not on the team, Hope to see you in the stands!

Highlight of the weekend.
The highlight of my weekend was hijacking Mom for lunch and spending some time with her for Mothers' Day weekend. Friday night I stopped at Heights Flower and bought some kind of kick-ass plant that blooms red flowers and attracts hummingbirds. Mom planted it at the top of the landscaping in the backyard... hopefully Lizzie doesn't do too much damage to it.
This is a photo of me yesterday prior to going to Chicago the Musical. I was quite excited at the time and sporting the new green shirt Mom got for me. Anyway, for a traveling Broadway production, I'll have to say it was quite underwhelming. I guess you'll have that every once and awhile. At least I have Sheryl Crow and Little Big Town to look forward to.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers' Day Weekend!

Garden almost done!
I just about finished my garden the other night. I put rabbit fence along the fence and will have to finish going around the two "halves" of the garden. I have three rows of sugar snap peas and 4 mounds of cucumbers. Hopefully they'll come up soon and I'll have some fresh veggies to look forward to.
Here's the wild flower garden. This should be an interesting experiment. I'm not sure if they'll have enough sun or not. Do you like the spots where I peat mossed my house? I really need to wash the siding all around the house. Does one just use water for that?
Yes, the edging is not finished. I have to take some measurements and make a trip to Bartonville. I hear there's a workshop in that area that has a saw I could use.

Finally Unveiled!
My first painting is finally complete and I was able to show it to Tom tonight. Now he just has to add this to the plans in his "man room". What's next on my plate? Heads up Dad, next one is coming your way!
How did softball go tonight? We lost, yet again. I ended up walking a couple batters and didn't hit all that well. I shook it off with a Boca burger at Lou's Drive-in after the game. Instead, I really could have used a chocolate shake.

On the homestrech... finally!
I've lost count of how much time I've spent in my backyard over the last few weeks. The good news is that I'm almost done. Everything is ready for planting. I just didn't have the umph to finish it today.
